Who has created this website?

This website was put together by the Create Foundation (link). The information contained in this website aims to empower young people in care who have begun their transition to independence.

Who is this website for?

This website is written specifically for young people who are in foster care or who have recently left foster care, and who are making the transition out of care. It contains information and advice that will assist the young person to make positive choices towards their independence.

If I need more information, and the links don’t work, what should I do?

There are many links within this website that will direct you to more in-depth information. If any of the links do not work or if your questions or concerns are not addressed, please contact the website administrator: news@create.org.au

Do I need to have a caseworker to get assistance?

As you get older, your caseworker will keep working with you to try to find the best living arrangements. This person will be responsible for finding you a safe place to live until you turn 18 – if your order lasts that long.

From around the time you turn 15, your worker should start talking to you about what you are going to do when you turn 18. This is called ‘transition from care’ by most departments.

You will have to think about things such as where you are going to live, if you are going to study or go to work, money and what other support is available to you. Your case worker will not stop talking to you, but they will do a lot of planning with you to help you to live your life independently.

Can I use this website if I am not in care?

The Create Foundation encourages the sharing of any information contained in this site. It is accessible to anyone and will be particularly useful for any young person who is seeking information on how to achieve their independence.

If I have learned something helpful, how can I share this with other young people?

The Create Foundation values your knowledge. Please send your comments and useful information to the website administrator. The information will then be published on the website for all young people to access.
