Signing A Lease

There is a lot of small print in a lease agreement. Take the time to read it.

Check the Details!

When you are looking at the lease, make sure you are clear about:

•    Who pays for water;

•    How long the lease period is;

•    That everything works in the house such as smoke alarms, oven, shower, toilet etc;

•    If you can keep pets; and

•    Who maintains the garden.

Black Lists - Tenancy Databases

The QLD RTA's website also includes a FAQ sheet on the TICA tenancy database - a black list that real estate agents can put tenants on that can stop them from getting a rental lease.

Often people don't know that they are on TICA (the black list) and the real estate agents don't tell them and just reject their rental lease application. The FAQ sheet tells them how to find out if they are on TICA without being charged. You can also contact the RTA for advice on how to get taken off the black list if you are on it.
