It is good to find a General Practitioner (GP) in your local area who you can go to whenever you need to.

To locate a GP go to Yellow Pages:

www.yellowpages.com.au

1.    Click on “Find business type”

2.    Type in “Doctor” or “General Practitioner”

3.    Under “Location” type in the name of your suburb.

4.    Click on “Search”

5.    A list of GPs will come up, with their address and contact numbers.

Ring the clinic that is closest to you and ask them if they offer “Bulk billing”.


Bulk Billing

Bulk billing is a payment option under the Medicare system. This is the universal health insurance system in Australia. The GP is paid directly by the government by billing your Medicare card, so you don’t have to hand over any cash.

You must have a Medicare card to receive the bulk billing service.

At the end of your visit you will sign a form that gives your rebate to the GP who has treated you.

Not all GPs offer this service, so be sure to ask before you make an appointment.
