Go Your Own Way Transition from Care (TFC) Kits

Transitioning from care to adulthood should be a positive and empowering experience. To begin your journey to independence, it helps to know where you can find useful information and support. The Go Your Own Way Kit includes a folder and other stuff that is packed with information about support services and general knowledge that you will need to know when you leave care. You can access a copy of the folder (however it won’t have all the application forms that the kit has) in the above link. In QLD every young person in statutory care turning 17 is entitled to receive a kit and your CSO should arrange a kit for you. If for some reason you miss out on a kit or you have questions about transitioning from care,  call your local Child Safety Service Centre, or call CREATE on 1800 655 105.

clubCREATE magazine Autumn 2012 edition is out now! To download a copy of the QLD state round-up click here!

Happy New Year folks!

We are pretty excited about 2012! It means a whole new year to met clubCREATE members and catch up with ones we already know! We will be scooting all around Queensland so keep an eye on the magazine for when the team will be in your area.

The Christmas Pool Party!

CREATE had some crazy fun at Wet n’ Wild on the Gold Coast with 300 children, young people and their families for our annual Christmas Party on December 10th.

Santa come to visit and gave out showbags. Everyone had an awesome time on the rides, not even the wet weather could stop us!

YAG gets Merry!

QLD CREATE’s Christmas YAG meeting was enjoyed by all! A particular thank you goes out to Microsoft for their generous donation of gifts that brought a smile to the faces of our YAG members. Consultations, good food, presents and craft were a good start to the Christmas break.

Its Camp time!!

The very first Create Your Future Camp in Queensland was held in November. Six brave young women, two intrepid Create Staff and one experienced guide braved the rainforests of Cairns for a night.  We hiked into the forests carrying all our gear and food.  The day was filled with some challenging team events and finished with a very much needed swim in the forest stream.

We returned tired and happy!!

Thinking Outside the Square

The first CREATE Your Future workshop for 2012 was an awesome day.  The group met at Elements collective dance studio in Fortitude Valley.  The workshop explored dance, drama and everyone had a lot of fun!!! Look out for workshops in your area!

The Think Outside the Square program in Brisbane was exciting and I met some new funny people, I really enjoyed acting and dancing, I learnt many new things.

It was a great experience!

A New Batch of Young Consultants

Young people travelled from all over QLD to join the CREATE team at its December Young Consultants training in Brisbane – over 1,500 kms! Our new recruits enjoyed learning about the experiences of young people in care in different parts of the state as well as exploring the sites of Brisbane. CREATE looks forward to working with its Young Consultants in regional parts of QLD and hearing the voices of young people in care in these areas.
